Session Title
Rumination and Emotion
Core message
The body feels first. The mind follows.

Psychoeducation

Rumination often begins with emotion:

  • anxiety,
  • sadness,
  • shame,
  • guilt,
  • anger.

The mind tries to “think through” the emotion in order to control it.

But emotions usually need space —
not analysis.

The problem is not the emotion itself.

The problem is the endless attempt
to mentally solve the emotion.

“Today, you will learn that you do not need

to explain an emotion

in order to tolerate it.”

“When you feel something difficult,

do not immediately go to:

‘Why do I feel this way?’

Go to the body instead.

Ask:

‘Where do I feel this?’”

Place your hand on the area where you feel tension.

Maybe:

  • chest,
  • throat,
  • stomach,
  • shoulders,
  • jaw.

Then say:

“This is an emotion.

It does not need an explanation right now.”

Stay there for 90 seconds.

Not to remove the feeling.

Only to allow it.

The body feels first.

The mind follows.
